Firefox 3: download the final version

Firefox 3After waiting around a month since the Release Candidate version has been announced, now you could download Firefox 3 the Final version last Tuesday June 17th.

The big issues of the Firefox 3 are fixed memory leaks and bugs that slowed down Firefox 2, which means the Firefox 3 is more faster.

Information Week wrote interesting review about Firefox 3:

But the news isn’t all good. Firefox 3’s developers, Mozilla.org, brag about new security features designed to protect users against phishing and sites that attempt to download malware. But the new features are unreliable, and will likely lull naive users into a false sense of security. The potential damage is limited there — even moderately expert users shouldn’t have a problem because they don’t need the warnings. But from a security standpoint, Firefox 3 is a step backward.

I suggest you to read the review done by Information Week in 3 pages before download Firefox 3.

The other thing you should consider is the compatibility of Firefox 3’s add-ons.

Online backup service is a nightmare?

Online backup servicesOnline backup could be interested services to backup data as posted earlier. But now I suggest you to find out more information about this in blogs, forums or other sources, before you decided to use this service. Here is the reason.

It was Robyn Peterson, Chief Technology Officer for Ziff Davis Media, who was looking to store some 250 GB of his personal data online and opted for a web hosting company that offered server space.

The backup process was long but smooth (Robyn is a geek). And then one fine morning, he discovered that all his files have been deleted from the web server without any notification. The tech-support team responded saying that they “have been cracking down on people using our services for backing up files.” The data was never recovered.

Lenovo X300 vs. Macbook Air

Lenovo X300Lenovo releases professional laptop PC called X300, the latest ultralight laptop. Even followed the IBM ThinkPads footsteps, the X300 is completely designed by Lenovo.

The X300 is a complete laptop that has just about all a portable computer user could ask for. And what’s more, it’s still light and easy to carry, with its 13.3” display and 3.4-lb. (1.5 kg) weight.

Compared to many ultraportables that leave off options like optical drives and large displays, the X300 offers more.

Even if the X300 is not really a competitor of the MacBook Air, the two machines, understandably, are often compared – they share the same display size and executive-class price. But whereas the Apple machine has limited connectivity (Apple argues that what it has is enough) to limit the size, the X300 is extremely well outfitted, at the price of being a tad larger (but not to the point where it really makes a difference).

Lenovo X300 vs. MacBook Air

The processor is a Core 2 Duo L7100. For the majority of you out there who aren’t fluent in Intel’s nomenclature, that means a processor with two cores, clocked at 1.2 GHz (800 MHz bus). That’s slower than average, but it’s a way of reducing the X300’s energy consumption. It has 2 GB of RAM (two DDR2 SIMMs), and it’s possible to install 4 GB. Finally, the graphics processing unit is a GMA X3100 from Intel, but in a slowed-down version: 166 MHz instead of 250 MHz on battery power (and 500 MHz instead of 667 MHz on AC power).

Is the X300 better than the MacBook Air?

Microsoft comes with a new proposal to Yahoo

YahooAs reported by Michael Liedtke and Jessica Mintz from The Huffington Post.

SAN FRANCISCO — Microsoft Corp. is once again trying to team up with Yahoo Inc. to challenge Internet search and advertising leader Google Inc., although at this point the renewed talks haven’t escalated to another attempt to take over Yahoo.

The Redmond, Wash.-based software maker disclosed the revived discussions Sunday without providing any specifics about the nature of the deal being explored except to say it involved bolstering the companies’ position in the online search and advertising markets.

“Microsoft is considering and has raised with Yahoo an alternative that would involve a transaction with Yahoo but not an acquisition of all of Yahoo,”

the statement said.

Microsoft emphasized that it hasn’t resurrected a $47.5 billion takeover bid that its chief executive, Steve Ballmer, withdrew after Yahoo CEO Jerry Yang _ acting on behalf of Yahoo’s board _ demanded an additional $5.5 billion.

But Microsoft left open the possibility that it might dangle another buyout offer of Yahoo, depending on how the discussions progress between the two companies and their respective shareholders.
